Compre e conecte um domínio

How to choose and buy a domain name, where to buy it (including country domains like .com.mx, .com.ar or .uy), and the two DNS records that point it at your site on Skiffly — with HTTPS issued automatically.

A domain (mysite.com) is a name you rent by the year from a registrar. It does not host anything by itself: you add DNS records at the registrar that say "this name lives at that server". Your site stays on Skiffly; the domain just points to it. Custom domains work on every plan, Free included, and the HTTPS certificate is free and automatic.

1. Choose and buy the name#

  • Short, easy to spell out loud, no hyphens if you can avoid them.
  • .com is the default. A country domain (.com.mx, .com.ar, .com.co, .cl, .pe, .uy) tells visitors you are local and is often cheaper to get in a short form.
  • Expect about $10–15 a year for a .com. Watch the renewal price, not only the first-year discount.

Where to buy: any registrar works — Cloudflare Registrar (sells at cost), Namecheap, Porkbun, GoDaddy, or your country's registry for local endings (NIC México via its accredited registrars, NIC Argentina, NIC Chile, .CO, NIC.uy).

2. Add the domain on Skiffly#

The site must already be deployed (see From localhost to the internet). Then, in the project folder:

npx skiffly domain www.mysite.com

or in the dashboard: service Settings → Networking → Add custom domain. Skiffly shows the two records to create:

www.mysite.com. CNAME edge.skiffly.cloud.
_skiffly.www.mysite.com. TXT "<verification token>"

3. Create the records at your registrar#

Open the domain's DNS settings at the registrar ("Manage DNS", "Advanced DNS", "Zona DNS") and add:

TypeName / HostValue / Points to
CNAMEwwwedge.skiffly.cloud
TXT_skiffly.wwwthe token Skiffly printed

Most registrars want only the part before your domain in the Name field (www, _skiffly.www), not the full name. Delete any old www record (a parking page, a "website builder" record) first — a name can have only one CNAME.

The bare domain (mysite.com without www)#

A bare domain cannot have a CNAME at most registrars. Two options:

  • Recommended: use www.mysite.com as the site and set a redirect from mysite.com to https://www.mysite.com at the registrar (Namecheap: "URL Redirect Record"; Cloudflare: a redirect rule).
  • Or add the bare domain too (npx skiffly domain mysite.com) with an A record @ → 65.109.28.161 plus the TXT record Skiffly shows. Providers with ALIAS/ANAME or "CNAME flattening" (Cloudflare) can point @ at edge.skiffly.cloud instead.

4. Wait for verification#

Skiffly checks the records every 2 minutes during the first day; most registrars publish changes within 5–30 minutes (sometimes a few hours). When they are visible the domain turns Active, the certificate is issued and you get a notification — no redeploy needed. Check from the terminal:

npx skiffly domain status www.mysite.com

If it does not work#

SymptomCause
stays "Pending" for hoursthe record name is doubled (www.mysite.com.mysite.com) — enter only www / _skiffly.www; or the old parking record is still there
the browser shows the registrar's parking pagean old A or CNAME record for the same name — delete it
certificate warning right after activationwait a few minutes; the certificate is issued after verification
works with www, not withoutset up the redirect or the A record for the bare domain (above)

Using Cloudflare DNS? You can keep the record DNS only (grey cloud) or Proxied (orange); with Proxied set SSL/TLS mode to Full (strict).
